These Colombian coffee beans are medium roasted with notes of caramel, strawberry and orange. Cordillera (pronounced kaw-du-yeah-ruh) is a specialty-grade, single origin organic coffee, grown in the Colombian Andes.
Note: this is a small batch roast in limited supply.
Colombia is a must-visit destination for anyone in search of exceptional coffee. The country's reputation for quality is the result of hard work and favourable natural conditions. One interesting feature that sets Colombian coffees apart is the presence of three mountain ranges known as cordilleras in the Andes. These mountain ranges create various microclimates, which are perfect for producing high-quality coffee.
In the southern part of Colombia, the three cordilleras converge to form a single mountain range, creating a unique area called the Popayán knot. Just before this knot is the city of Popayán, which is the capital of the department of Cauca. To the east, the Popayán plateau borders Huila. The combination of high altitude, proximity to the equator, and surrounding mountains creates a stable climate throughout the year and fertile volcanic soils. This makes the region, known as the Meseta de Popayán, an ideal environment for growing coffee.
These Colombian coffee beans come from a cooperative called the Asociación de Caficultores Ecológicos del Cauca (ACEC). ACEC has around 500 members, including 80 women. All the families live in the region and cultivate coffee on small plots of land ranging from 0.5 to 1.5 hectares. ACEC provides training to its members to help them improve the quality of their coffee and minimize their impact on the environment. Thanks to the support of ACEC, many members have been able to obtain organic certification for their coffee.
