Fabulous find in Appledore – Susie’s Kitchen

  • 2 min read

There are endless crooks and crannies to explore in Appledore, with far reaching views over the river and estuary. It is a fabulous spot for a stroll, every aspect of this picturesque, fishing village will enchant, and walking down the central quayside you are surrounded by a fusion of colour. It is festooned with brightly, decorated, billowing flags, multi-coloured houses and boats of all shapes and sizes, whilst splattered with a medley of quirky shops, pubs and art galleries that just add to its magic.

Whilst you are there you have to try Susie’s Tea Rooms (now known as Market Street Kitchen from 2017), an independent café on Market Street in the heart of the village, with a beautiful garden to enjoy in the warmer weather. Serving Owens Coffee, of course, they love local produce with superb seasonal dishes available daily on their specials board.

Everything is cooked from scratch in the kitchen using the amazing produce of the surrounding area. North Devon is packed full of amazing food & people: and most of Susie’s Tea Rooms ingredients are sourced locally. We are really proud to be working alongside some amazing suppliers, such as the ‘Country Cottage Bakery’ & F. Heards butchers in Westward Ho! Black Dog Eggs in Crediton & local Clovelly fisherman ‘Dan the Fish Man’. Even the refreshing apple juice comes from Devon and a traditional unsprayed orchard. In tiny batches they are picked, pressed and bottled on site, using the best Devon apple varieties. A lot of thought goes into the sourcing of local produce, and creating a fabulous menu. Well worth a visit, for breakfast, cake, lunch or just a snack, with an Owens coffee. The barista Andy, is truly dedicated to serving you the best cup of coffee around. Knowledgeable about his beans and blends, just ask him for guidance on what coffee to have! Although, you will also have trouble deciding which tea to have, there is a whole page of them on the menu!

Give Susie’s Tea Room a go, especially as it is Fairtrade Fortnight, where you can do your bit by eating in venues where all the food is traceable. You won’t be disappointed.
