Peter Gorton Becomes Owens Coffee Ambassador

  • 2 min read

Peter Gorton has been a big supporter of Owens Coffee, almost since we began roasting in 2010! We are thrilled to announce that more recently, Peter has become an official ambassador for our products.

It is important to us that someone with Peter Gorton’s depth of knowledge and experience of the hospitality industry is such a big fan of our coffee! Below, we find out a little bit more about him:

Peter Gorton: Award-winning Master Chef of Great Britain

Peter Gorton Master Chef of Great Britain holding Owens Coffee

Peter Gorton is an award-winning Master Chef of Great Britain and one of the finest chefs in the South West. From the age of 16, he worked and trained at some of the best restaurants in Great Britain and across the world, from The Walnut Tree in Abergavenny to Burnham Beeches Country House Hotel in Melbourne Australia, and Jamin in Paris.

Peter went on to become chef and proprietor of the Carved Angel restaurants and cafés in Exeter, Dartmouth and Taunton, together with Devon’s ‘The Horn of Plenty’.

Following this, Peter opened Gorton’s restaurant in Tavistock. Gorton’s was sold in 2014, allowing Peter to dedicate his time to his longer-term life ambition: helping to train a new generation of future great chefs.

As well as his role with The Master Chefs of Great Britain which is committed to help further the ideas and careers of young chefs coming into the industry, Peter opened a hospitality academy in Plymouth. During his extensive career, Peter has won many national awards, including a Michelin Star.

Peter Gorton Chef Consultancy recommends Owens Coffee!

Today, Peter Gorton runs a consultancy business working with hotels and restaurants in the UK and overseas, and is on the Board of Directors for Food Drink Devon. And when it comes to coffee, Peter recommends Owens!

Peter says “Living in Devon, I am passionate about using the wonderful produce that we have here in the West Country. I’ve loved Owens Coffee for many years. The team’s sustainability credentials offer a huge advantage to hospitality owners seeking to differentiate and reach the fast-growing conscious consumer market, and I have seen first-hand that they go above and beyond to deliver a high-quality product and service.

Commercially, the coffee is a strong, worthwhile local brand. Most of all though, Owens Coffee tastes great!

From its decaf and dark roast house blends, to its medium roasts and speciality single origins, the coffee range has fantastic depth of flavour, and makes a truly satisfying cup!”.

We are delighted that Peter has agreed to become an official ambassador for Owens Coffee. As part of this, he will be designing a series of recipes especially for us and our customers, as well as sharing his thoughts for our coffee.
