At Owens Coffee, we’ve always believed that every cup of coffee tells a story.
For years, our Tunki coffee from Peru has been a much-loved part of our range, beloved for its exceptional flavour and organic, Fairtrade-certified credentials.
This is still very much the case, but today it takes on a new name so we’re thrilled to introduce Las Damas Peru, a coffee that not only matches the quality you have loved in Tunki, but now puts far more emphasis on supporting an inspiring mission: gender equity in coffee farming.
The taste you love!
We know how much you, our customers, adore Tunki, which is why our expert roasting and coffee development team team have worked so carefully to ensure that Las Damas offers the same high standards of flavour and quality.
Just like our Tunki coffee, our Las Damas Peru coffee is grown in Peru’s pristine Andean highlands, delivering a beautifully smooth, rich cup with notes of raspberry, hazelnut and chocolate - perfect for quiet mornings and shared moments with friends and loved ones.
Why the change?
This isn’t just about a name. It is the first in a range of 'Las Damas' coffees we will be introducing, all of which support female coffee farmers, growers and workers, contributing to a brighter future for women and their families in coffee-growing regions.
As a female-founded business, it was important to us at Owens to ensure that the women in our supply chain are treated fairly too.
So by purchasing Las Damas Peru and the other Las Damas range of coffees we'll be introducing in the coming months, you’re directly participating in this movement, enjoying a coffee that’s not only delicious but also meaningful.
Meet Las Damas Peru - the 'new' Tunki
Las Damas is sourced from the Café Femenino Co-operative in Peru, which is part of the globally recognised Café Femenino programme.
The Café Femenino coffee programme is a unique ethical sourcing initiative dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty for women coffee farmers around the globe. It ensures women receive direct compensation for their work and equips them with the opportunities and resources needed to drive meaningful change within their communities, on their own terms.
Women participating in Café Femenino co-operatives gain direct control over their income and play a leading role in the decision-making process within their farming communities.
By transitioning the emphasis and name to Las Damas Peru, we’re proud to support the very founders of the Café Femenino programme who are crafting coffee with skill, care, and dedication - all while working to create a more equitable and sustainable future for them and their families in what is a male-dominated industry.
Making a difference, one cup at a time
Since its inception,
Café Femenino has impacted thousands of women, helping to break cycles of poverty and inequality. The programme has also invested in local communities, funding healthcare, education, and housing improvements.
By introducing Las Damas, we’re aligning our passion for incredible coffee with our commitment to positive change. We’re thrilled to bring you a coffee that represents the best of both worlds: exceptional quality and a purpose that resonates far beyond the cup.
Discover Las Damas today
We invite you to join us on this exciting new chapter. Whether you’re a long-time Tunki lover or new to Owens Coffee,
Las Damas Peru is an opportunity to savour a truly remarkable coffee while supporting a cause that matters.
The first step in our journey to champion women in coffee
As mentioned above, the story of Las Damas is just the beginning. At Owens Coffee, we’re proud to be a female-founded business, with women playing key roles, including owner Lorraine and our Head of Coffee Jen.
Inspired by the incredible impact of the Café Femenino programme, we’re planning to expand the Las Damas range, introducing more coffees sourced from female-run co-operatives and farms around the world.
Each new addition will celebrate women’s contributions to coffee farming while continuing our mission to deliver exceptional quality with purpose.
