SCA Barista Skills Foundation Course

The Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) Barista Skills Foundation accreditation is a one-day course that enables baristas to get started in their professional career in coffee as part of the SCA Barista Skills course and the wider SCA Coffee Skills Programme.

The course is held at The Roastery in Devon, and hosted by Owens’ in-house Authorised SCA Trainer (AST).

SCA Barista Skills is taught at three levels: Foundation, Intermediate and Professional. These levels cover the fundamentals of making espresso. This includes how to calibrate the grinder, prepare espresso, foam and condition milk, and produce latte art. It also covers basic business operations, customer service procedures, care of equipment and health and safety considerations.

Level 1 of the Barista Skills Course is the Barista Skills Foundation Course. The Foundation Course is a perfect starting point for getting to grips with coffee basics and mastering essential barista skills endorsed by the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA).

Certification: Earn a globally-recognised certification from the Specialty Coffee Association. This qualification demonstrates you've got what it takes to brew up excellence in the world of coffee.

Hands-on Learning: The Foundation course is a mix of practical and theory. Practice making drinks, setting up your workspace, and serving customers. Then test your theoretical knowledge with a written exam reviewing the areas covered by the course content.

Full-Scale Curriculum: From safety rules to customer service tips, we cover everything you need to know to gain this international barista qualification.

NOTE: This course includes SCA certification, however, there is a £50 SCA student enrolment fee that should be paid direct to the SCA before you start. If this is not paid in advance, you will be asked to make your payment before training can start. 
How to enrol with the SCA:

  1. Enter your SCA learner number in the notes (if you don’t already have an SCA learner number, please create an account for free - here )
  2. Complete your booking and payment for the training course on the date(s) of your choice
  3. Once confirmed, our AST trainer will enrol you into the SCA course (please note this can take up to 5 working days)
  4. You will receive an email direct from the SCA, and it will ask you to pay the enrolment fee (£50)
  5. Please pay the enrolment fee prior to starting the course
  6. You’ve now taken your first step to brewing success in the coffee industry!

Terms & Conditions:

Price is per person. Your course will run with a minimum of 2 people booked. We reserve the right to cancel and reschedule the session should this minimum quantity not be reached.

In the event we are unable to run the course you will be provided with the options to move or cancel your session.

If you wish to cancel or are unable to attend the course, we will refund up to 7 days prior to the date booked - cancellation within 7 days prior to the course date will not be refunded.

If you would like to transfer the booked course into someone else’s name, please let us know at the earliest opportunity.
