AMPROCAL – Honduras

At Owens, every cup starts with people. Our coffee is grown by dedicated farmers and cooperatives around the world, whose care and expertise bring out the rich flavours in every roast. By choosing 100% organic, specialty and Fairtrade beans, we support better livelihoods for farming communities — so when you meet our farmers, you’re also meeting the heart of our coffee.

AMPROCAL is an all-women cooperative based in Pashapa La Labor, western Honduras. Founded in 2007 by eight women, it now supports nearly 100 members who cultivate Arabica in the Ocotepeque region. The cooperative provides micro-credit services, roasting facilities, and agronomic training, while also powering its office with biogas made from coffee waste. Members are Fairtrade and many are Organic certified, ensuring both sustainability and long-term security for farming families.

Coffee is handpicked, pulped, fermented for 12 to 18 hours, washed in clean water, and then dried in the sun. The slower maturation at high altitude creates denser beans with refined sweetness and complexity. The result is coffee that is rounded yet bright, with flavours of chocolate, pear, watermelon, and gentle fruit notes. Through AMPROCAL, our coffee gains elegance, sweetness, and a smooth backbone of chocolate flavour.
