Who are we?
Owens Coffee is an independent, award-winning organic, and fair trade coffee roaster based in Devon’s Ivybridge. We specialise in producing 100% certified organic and Fairtrade coffee.
What will you be doing?
This is a varied role involving supporting the roastery, cafe and production team so you will gain a huge range of experience in a fantastic industry that could literally take you anywhere in the world.
As you'd expect, we’re looking for someone with coffee experience and knowledge and this is a great role for someone with barista experience looking for a new challenge in their coffee career. Whilst previous roastery or warehousing experience would be an advantage, this is an entry level role and full training will be provided.
You will become an important member of our team, supporting customers as part of our production and our café/retail departments.
From hotels to cafes to coffee businesses, this role will give you the breadth and depth of experience and knowledge to learn more about this brilliant industry.
The Role:
We are looking for someone able to work up to 37.5 hours a week, including weekends/bank holidays on a rota basis with flexible working patterns taken into consideration:
- Salary from £12.50ph

Duties to include (but not limited to):
- Working with our production team to fulfil (packing & processing) wholesale and retail orders
- Maintaining good working order of packing and roasting equipment
- Maintaining cleanliness of the production area
- Reading, understanding & ensuring orders (online, trade, retail & subscriptions) are accurately fulfilled
- Assisting the production team to meet order delivery deadlines & delight our customers
- Learning about and helping to maintain stock levels of roasted coffee and other products
- Keeping the roastery spaces clean and organised
- As this is a hybrid position, you will also assist The Café Manager during peak times and covering lunch, this will involve dealing with customers face to face in our shop / via our trade counter – listening, advising, processing orders/purchases and handling cash, Barista duties

- Customer service skills
- About maintaining stock levels in coffee production and for other stock inventory
- Advanced barista skills (how to make great coffee with an espresso machine and other brewing methods).
- There will also be an opportunity to learn coffee roasting techniques.
What will you need?
You’ll need to be interested in the coffee & beverages industry and ideally have:
- a passion for coffee
- experience in coffee and hospitality
- organisation and ability to prioritise tasks
- methodical and tidy
- enjoys opportunities to work independently, but is also a strong team player
- energetic, enthusiastic, and tenacious
- a can-do attitude and problem-solving skills
- qualifications in Maths & English
- good communication skills (in person and in writing)
- friendly and personable
- confidence to deal face to face with the general public
- attention to detail
- a genuine willingness and enthusiasm for learning
- Meet the physical requirements of the role (lifting, kneeling, bending and reaching)
