The coffee you reach for when you want more than a morning brew. It’s a connection to care, craft, and clarity. This specialty single-origin from Rwanda’s highlands is light and crisp, with sweet notes of cherry, almond, and creamy vanilla. It’s coffee with grace, in every sip.
Grown at 1,800–2,200 m above sea level by the women-led Twongerekawa Coko Cooperative in Gakenke—a group of over 200 farmers dedicated to Organic and Fairtrade principles. Their regenerative farming, shadow canopies, and meticulous care mean the beans are slowly ripened and beautifully expressive.
This is organic coffee at its best single origin and perfectly roasted, it’s won UK’s Best of Organic Coffee (BOOM Awards 2023) and Gold at the Food & Drink Devon Awards.

1
Meet the farmer
Rwanda is grown by the Twongerekawa Coko cooperative in Gakenke District, a women-led group dedicated to quality and empowerment. Farmers cultivate Bourbon Arabica at high altitude and process it with meticulous double fermentation and sun-drying, producing a vibrant cup with notes of black tea, cherry, citrus, and stone fruit. Certified Organic, Fairtrade, and specialty-grade, this coffee reflects both exceptional flavour and the resilience of the community that produces it.

2
Fairtrade
Fairtrade is a global system that ensures farmers are paid a fairer, more stable price for their coffee, with an additional premium invested back into their co-operatives and communities. This stability gives producers and their communities the chance to plan for the future and strengthen local infrastructure — from training and adoption of improved farming practices and equipment to community education and clean water projects. Combined with organic practices and specialty-grade standards, our coffee is grown with expertise that supports quality at every stage, with fewer shortcuts and greater care, and this is what makes every cup of Owens coffee taste consistently clean, balanced, and rewarding.

3
Organic
Our organic coffees are grown without synthetic pesticides or fertilisers, protecting both the environment and the people who farm it. Healthier soil produces stronger plants, and slower-ripening cherries develop more natural sugars, creating sweetness and clarity in the cup. Organic farming also safeguards biodiversity, protects local ecosystems and supports long-term resilience for farming communities. For customers, this means coffee that is cleaner, more complex and free from chemical harshness. Paired with Fairtrade principles and specialty-grade quality, Organic farming is one of the reasons every mug of Owens tastes consistently bright, balanced, and rewarding.

4
Specialty coffee
Specialty grade is the independent standard that guarantees every coffee we roast meets the highest benchmarks of quality. Scored by trained Q graders on aroma, flavour, body, and balance, specialty coffees must achieve 80 points or more on the Specialty Coffee Association (SCA) scale — proof of excellence that is recognised worldwide. For farmers, it reflects the care and precision that goes into cultivation, harvesting, and processing. For customers, it means every bag of Owens delivers a cup that is consistently clean, flavour-rich, and rewarding. Combined with our Soil Association Organic certification and Fairtrade sourcing, specialty grade ensures Owens coffee is not only ethical, but exceptional.

5
Sustainability
Our Loring roaster is one of the most energy-efficient machines in the world, reducing fuel consumption by up to 80% compared with traditional drum roasters. By using a single-burner system that recirculates hot air, it cuts carbon emissions dramatically while maintaining precise, even roasting. For customers, it means every bag of Owens carries a roast profile that is consistent, smooth, and full of character.
