Miles of walks all around, and your canine friend is as welcome as you are! There is a sense of history and warmth that pervades the hotel. The Bedford Hotel in historic Tavistock
If cream teas are your thing then look no further than the Bedford Hotel in award winning Devon market town Tavistock. Tavistock is rich in history and famous son’s and daughters tell a story that spans over a thousand years, King’s and Queen’s have come to visit and many a tale can be told of murder and mystery! This is the birthplace of the Devon Cream Tea. The Bedford Hotel was originally part of Tavistock’s Benedictine Abbey, which was established in the 10th century. During the restoration of the Abbey, workers were rewarded with bread, clotted cream and strawberry preserves, et voila, the Devon Cream Tea was born! You can also get Owens award winning coffee at the Bedford, which goes just as well with a cream tea, served in historic surroundings.
The Bedford is also dog friendly, so you could set yourself a little road trip and visit both hotels. The Two Bridges is only about 20 minutes drive. Enjoy the delights of Tavistock, then relax on beautiful Dartmoor. Mini break in Devon sorted, with coffee on the side.
