This is the birthplace of the Devon Cream Tea. The Bedford Hotel was originally part of Tavistock’s Benedictine Abbey, which was established in the 10th century. During the restoration of the Abbey, workers were rewarded with bread, clotted cream and strawberry preserves, et voila, the Devon Cream Tea was born!
