With luxury towels, bathrobes, bed linen and Molton Brown toiletries, this newly opened establishment is a real find. The establishment is beautifully decorated, with amazing beds and power showers that you will not want to get out of! Each room is individually named and has a welcome gift bag of locally made biscuits, fudge and chocolate, as well as complimentary tea or coffee and homemade cake on arrival. You will also find a little jar of Owens coffee, (decaf too), and Zuma hot chocolate, to drink during your stay in your room.
Breakfast is a sumptuous affair too, Janet and Mark, the owners, source their ingredients from the local market. Anything from kippers to asparagus instead of toast, to accompany your perfectly boiled soft eggs. If you are a vegetarian, Janet makes a special dish consisting of spinach, avocado, cherry tomatoes and chestnut mushrooms, all gently fried together with lemon juice and a selection of herbs and spices.
Tavistock itself is a wonderful place to visit, with Dartmoor just on the doorstep for fabulous walks and scenery. It is an ancient stannary town, and lies on the south west edge of Dartmoor. The name ‘Tavistock’ derives from ‘Tavy’, the River on which the town lies. Its importance was recognised when King Henry I granted a Market Charter in 1105. Sir Frances Drake was born just south of Tavistock, and there is a very fine statue of him not too far from the town centre. It has some lovely architecture of local stone, a wide range of interesting shops, a market, riverside park, leisure centre and theatre. Top all this off with beautiful countryside and a variety of National Trust properties, there is plenty to see and do during your stay.
